The Kauluwela Project was founded in 2027 by descendants of the Kauluwela Boys who were involved in the 1931-1932 Kahahawai-Massie Case: Joseph Kahahawai, Ben Ahakuelo, Henry Chang, Horace Ida, and David Takai.
Our Name: Kauluwela
Kauluwela Elementary is the school where the Kauluwela Boys first became friends and gave themselves the name, “the Kauluwela Gang.” This “gang” wasn’t dangerous but rather a group of friends.
